Palazzo Preca is as grand as its name suggests, boasting high-vaulted stone ceilings from which hang ornate chandeliers. With traditional Maltese patterned tiled flooring and muted jazz playing in the background, it is a feast for all the senses, not merely the taste buds. Attention to detail is evident in the use of not one but two tablecloths per table, exquisite crockery, glistening cutlery and glassware and refreshing aromatic wet towels. The lower level hosts a fantastic wine cellar including their own Palazzo Preca label house wine and spotless restrooms so charming as to merit a visit. This is a fine dining experience steeped in history. Prepare to be spoiled!
After tantalising your taste buds with an Amuse Bouche, savour raw prawns marinated in a lemon oil infusion or try the mixed shellfish with truly crispy fried calamari and tender tendrils of octopus in garlic. Attempt to resist the warm O-shaped bread accompanied by homemade garlic butter in little ramekins or their own label extra virgin olive oil – a tough challenge indeed! Taste the soft-as-butter pork belly, slow cooked for 8 hours, and the crunchy, salty, crackling, or try the delicious lampuki goujons. Endeavour to reserve some space for the delectable homemade desserts, recipes of which have been handed down within the family for generations. Enjoy trifle, chocolate coconut mousse, baked cheesecake with pistachio crumble or crème brûlée. "
